Research Session 2

“Evolving Paradigms of Intercultural Thought: From Historical Foundations to Future Directions”
This session draws on Dr. GL Hernandez’s deep expertise in intercultural communication, global studies, and responsible leadership, cultivated through his Ph.D. in Intercultural Communication and roles as Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher.
Dr. Hernandez will illuminate how to bridge, not deepen, differences amidst contemporary global challenges, including geopolitical shifts, evolving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) landscapes, and the transformative and ethical implications of AI. He will share proven practices and innovative approaches from his extensive research on topics such as migrant mental healthcare communication, racial representation in higher education, and the dynamics of inequality in global contexts. His educational philosophy, rooted in critical pedagogy and constructivist learning, emphasizes student engagement and real-world application.
Participants will gain actionable insights, tools, and frameworks derived from Dr. Hernandez’s experience teaching courses like “Cross-Cultural Awareness” and “Responsible Leadership,” utilizing role play and interactive exercises to hone analytical and interpersonal skills. This forward-thinking masterclass will examine the historical evolution of intercultural thought, its current manifestations in a VUCA world, and critically explore where the field needs to go next to foster a more inclusive and interconnected future.
